Confirmation

Confirmation is a personal answer to the promise given in baptism: young people profess their faith before the congregation and receive the Lord’s Supper for the first time.

  1. What is confirmation?

Most of us were baptised as children, through the faith of our parents and godparents. In confirmation we affirm that covenant ourselves: we confess Jesus Christ as our Lord and become adult, communicant members of the congregation.

  2. Who is it for?

Usually young people aged 13–14 — but adults can be confirmed too. It is never too late.

  3. How does the preparation work?

For one school year the confirmands meet weekly with the pastor. Together we read the Bible, learn the Heidelberg Catechism and talk about faith, life and community. At the end they make their vows before the congregation — traditionally at Pentecost. Classes are held in Hungarian.
